Sarah Scavone

Sarah Scavone is currently a K-5 reading specialist in Charlottesville, Virginia and has classroom experience teaching third, fourth, and fifth grades. She has served in the field of education since 2001 and was recognized in 2015 with The Golden Apple Award for her leadership and excellence in education. Sarah is originally from Saratoga Springs, New York. She received her bachelor of arts from Alfred University in 2000 and went on to pursue her master of science in reading education. She has experience working in Albemarle County’s most diverse elementary school, with students speaking over 30 different languages and approximately 80% of students receiving free/reduced lunch. Sarah sees and feels the positive results from utilizing the Responsive Classroom approach in her classroom and from leading this work across her school. She believes strongly in the power of that community to drive the increase in academic achievement.
